This morning's British Medical Journal slams the drug industry's practice of hiring "key opinion leaders" among academic physicians, whose job is to promote sales of individual products with company-dictated presentations to practicing physicians. Australian journalist Ray Moynihan includes a revelatory interview with an 18-year veteran drug representative, who candidly admits "if that speaker didnt make the impact the company was looking for, then you wouldnt invite them back."
